Dear Shiloh Families,
Tomorrow we go back to school and begin our last stretch--10 more weeks at Camp Shiloh! We are so excited to move back into our beautiful school in August and we have some fun closing activities planned at Camp Shiloh as well as some fun kick-off activities at New Shiloh. Please watch your Eagle Updates for information as it becomes available.
Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Duchow and Mr. Edwards
A few newsworthy items and reminders...
April's PTSO meeting is scheduled for this Tuesday, April 9. Due to a conflict with a public forum for one of our superintendent candidates, we have moved this meeting to 5 pm instead of 6 pm. We will meet in the library as usual, starting at 5 pm, on Tuesday, April 9. Following the meeting, parents and community members are invited to attend the superintendent forum at Northwood Middle School at 6 pm. We won't have to travel far.
Chocolate Pick Up:
Thank you for supporting our PTSO with our chocolate fund raiser! Chocolate will be available for pick up after school on Wednesday, April 10.
Shiloh's Got Talent!
We hope your 3rd-6th grader will consider signing up for the third annual "Shiloh's Got Talent" Talent show! The talent show is Thursday, April 25, from 6 - 7:30 pm in the Camp Shiloh Gymnasium. Children may pick up forms in the office this week and they are due by Tuesday, April 9. Acts will be previewed Thursday and Friday, April 11 and 12. All acts must be previewed and no act may be changed from the act that is shared during the preview without permission from our PTSO.
In addition, we need your help, parents, as we try to grow respectful, polite kids.
- We ask that all parents emphasize for their children the importance of being a great audience for all of the other performers, both before and after performing. Side talk, rehearsing acts, entertaining younger siblings, playing on cellphones--these are highly distracting to those brave kids who are having their moment in the spotlight.
- Families of early performers are invited to stay for the entire show to honor all of the other performers and keep disruptions to a minimum.
Reminder: Smarter Balanced Assessment
In April and May of every year, we give our students an assessment to check to see how we have done throughout the year. You may recall that it is our goal in math and reading that every child who comes to us at grade level will maintain that growth and grow one year academically throughout the 9 months we have him or her. We know that every child who comes to us below grade level must grow more than one year in order to close the gap. The Smarter Balanced Assessment is one tool that helps us measure this growth.
If you have a child in grades 3 - 6, he or she is scheduled to take the Smarter Balanced Assessment on various days throughout April and May. A schedule will come out as April draws nearer, but in the meantime, we respectfully ask that you do not schedule appointments or family vacations during April and May that will require your child to miss school. Making up this assessment is stressful for students, who then end up missing another school day to make it up. It also taxes building staff, who we must find subs for so they can conduct make up testing for students.
DATE CHANGE: School Carnival
You may have already marked your calendar for the School Carnival, but please note that the date has been changed and is now May 22 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
