Welcome, Shiloh Kindergarteners!

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Welcome to Shiloh Hills!  We are so excited for your family to be a part of Shiloh Hills Elementary School!  This year we will implement a new process to place Kindergarteners into classes. We are doing this in order to better respond to the needs of our children and be sure we are setting them up for the most successful teacher and classmate match possible. If you are already a Shiloh family, this may feel different. Here are some important things you should know about the upcoming year…

  • We have 4 Kindergarten teachers at Shiloh Hills. They are Mr. Browning, Mrs. Markum, Mrs. Lange and Mrs. Pryor.  Although each student will be assigned a “September” teacher, they will interact with all teachers at different times during the first week of school. This fluid movement allows for both the teachers and kindergarteners to build relationships that will foster growth through the school year.  Remember, it takes a village! J  You will not know who your child’s permanent Kindergarten teacher is until after school on Friday September 13th.  We understand that this can make the first few days feel uncertain…but we promise that it will make the next 170 days better!
  • On Wednesday August 28th, from 5-7 pm we will host a Kindergarten-only pizza social. During this time, a complimentary pizza dinner will be provided and our principals Mr. Edwards and Mrs. Duchow will share information about what to expect for the upcoming year.  After dinner, a fun scavenger hunt will allow families to familiarize themselves with the new building. Please note that there is also an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 27 from 6-8 pm. Kindergarteners and their families are warmly invited to attend the Ice Cream Social as well as the Pizza Social, however our Kindergarten teachers will be present on the 28th and the building and classrooms will be open exclusively for Kindergarteners to visit on the 28th. This will hopefully help our Kindergarteners have a less hectic and crowded introduction to Shiloh Hills.
  • All full-day Kindergarten programs in Mead hold “Family Connections Conferences” before school starts. Shiloh’s family connections conferences will occur on September 3-5th and Kindergarten starts on September 6th. Your Family Connections Conference will be with your child’s “September” teacher. Our secretaries will contact you in late August to schedule this conference. On October 16, 17, and 18, we will hold school-wide goal-setting conferences and this conference will be with your child’s permanent Kindergarten teacher.
  • Monday, September 16th from 9-10 am, you are invited to have donuts with your child in his or her permanent classroom.

See the attached calendar for a summary of these important dates. We hope this information eases your First Day Jitters.  We are looking forward to an amazing Kindergarten year!

Thank You,

Your Shiloh Kindergarten Village
