Eagle Updates, February 10 - 14

Good Evening Shiloh Families,

It's conference week! We LOVE this opportunity to partner with you and share your child's growth. If you do not yet have a conference scheduled, there is still time to do so.  Feel free to call the office at 465-6800 and our office staff can help you get something scheduled!  Please read on for this week's Eagle Updates.

Mr. Edwards and Mrs. Duchow

Here at Shiloh Hills we use Blue Stars as a motivation for S.T.A.R. behavior.

When your children receive blue stars for being Safe, Trustworthy, Accountable, and/or Respectful, they put their names on them and they go in a prize jar of their choice.  Names are drawn from the jars regularly. Ask your child how many blue stars they have gotten this year!

Goodies with Grownups:

This Tuesday, February 11th @ 8:00am we invite you to join us in the Multipurpose room for Goodies with Grownups.  Anytime we have an event parking can get tight so please look for a space in the parking lot or along the street. If you are parking on the street, please read the signage to be sure you are not parking in the bus lane or in a fire lane.  Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone there!

Conference Week Schedule:

  • Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11 are normal school days.
    • Wednesday, February 12: 1 pm - 6 pm (Note that school dismisses at 12:45 on Feb 12.)
    • Thursday, February 13: 12 pm - 7 pm (Note that there is no school on Feb 13.)
    • Friday, February 14: 8 am - 12 pm (Note that there is no school on Feb 14.)

Does your child have a birthday coming up? Please read on for important information about Birthday Treats!

A few years ago, our school board revised our Nutrition and Physical Education Policy and Procedures in recognition of the critical connections between physical health and learning. Teachers limit their food-centered celebrations to 1 per month, with no more than 1 snack that doesn't meet "smart snack" guidelines. Birthdays can still be celebrated individually, but treats must be of the inedible sort (party favors like pencils, silly putty, or play dough, for example). We also do not use food as rewards for good behavior. (See below for an update on how we reward good behavior!) Take a look at our District Health Advisory Committee Community Newsletter for more information about celebrations, rewards, and smart snacks.

Spirit Day:

We have a spirit day coming up on Friday, February 21st.  The theme for this day is: Hat/Hoodie Day.  Choosing a spirit day was a prize chosen by a student whose blue star was drawn from the STAR Jar, and this particular student chose Hat/Hoodie Day.

Please be sure you call the office every day that your child is gone from school. This is a legal measure that promotes student safety by ensuring that all responsible adults are aware of the student's whereabouts during school hours.  The absence line is 465-6884.
