Eagle Updates October 15 - 19

Greetings, Shiloh Families!

Thank you for reading our communication. First we have some information about Shiloh's growth goals for our kids, followed by some reminders of dates and events. As always, visit our website www.shilohhills.mead354.org and our website's calendar page regularly to stay up to date on dates. In addition, consider following Shiloh AND our PTSO on Facebook!

Our goals at Shiloh are BIG GOALS!

  • We expect that 100% of our kids who come to us at grade level in reading and/or math will make at least one year's growth during their year at Shiloh.

  • We expect that 100% of our kids who come to us below grade level in reading and/or math will make MORE than one year's growth during their year at Shiloh. This is the only way they can catch up!

  • We expect that 100% of our families will participate actively in their child's education by doing one or more of the following:

    • attending parent/teacher conferences or making other arrangements if attending in person is problematic.

    • attending an event such as math night, Back-to-School Bash, the spring carnival, the Fund Run, Family Movie Night, etc.

We cannot accomplish our goals alone. What can you, our most important partners do?

  • Get your child to school every single day, and call us if your child is going to miss, for any reason. Call 465-6884.

  • Support your child's behavior at school. Learning time is like oxygen. When a child misses class due to behavior struggles, we do everything we can to support that child and get him or her back into class. We need your help and support to make that happen.

  • Communicate with your child's teacher. Come to conferences. Drop an email to the teacher every now and then. Follow Classroom Dojo if your child's teacher uses it.

Thank you for your partnership!

Halloween Parade: Wednesday, October 31

At Shiloh Hills we celebrate Halloween with a costume parade. Children will be invited to wear their costumes to school on Wednesday, October 31. More details about our parade and class parties will come soon, but until that time we wanted you to be aware, for your own planning, that costumes ARE allowed. Here are the guidelines:

  • We encourage "home made" costumes over store-bought costumes when possible. Allowing students to be creative and come up with costumes from items around the house is cheap, fun, and most of all--REALLY good for kids!

  • Save the following for home. Do not send your child to school with these things.

    • scary costumes (terrifying masks are not good choices with 5-year-olds in our building

    • blood and gory costumes or accessories

    • weapons of any type, real or for play

    • gross-out costumes or accessories (e.g., fake vomit, fake "bathroom products", etc.)

One final note! We'd like to take this time to introduce Kelli Lindsey, second grade teacher at Shiloh and Administrative Intern. Kelli will sometimes work in the office as she completes her internship to get her elementary principal certificate. If your child has a behavioral struggle at school, you may get a call from Kelli. She may also come on home visits from time to time, and help lead parent events. Please join us in welcoming her!

Believe! Achieve! Inspire!
