Greetings, Shiloh Families!
Welcome to 2019 at Camp Shiloh. School starts again tomorrow, January 7. We have been in school for 73 days. That means we have 107 extremely precious school days left this year to help your child learn and grow!
You may recall that we make it our goal to help our kids make at least one year's academic growth when they come to us at grade level in math or reading. When they come to us below grade level in math or reading, we know we must help them grow MORE than one year in order to eventually catch up.
Shiloh teachers work hard to make this happen and we consider you our most important partners in the work. As we head into January and the New Year, we'd like to offer the following Top 3 strategies for an effective parent/school partnership that leads to student growth:
1. Make school attendance your top priority for your child no matter what grade level he or she is in. Call the attendance line at 465-6884 each and every day that your child will be absent. We can't teach them if they aren't here.
2. Read to your child every day. If your child is an independent reader, make sure he or she has time and space to read independently every day.
3. Communicate with your child's teacher frequently. Conferences will be coming up on February 13, 14, and 15. Stay tuned for more information on scheduling your conference.
In January we have one non-school day, Martin Luther King Day, January 21. Consider this more than a day off of school, and think about ways you can honor this great man together with your child. Look here for some ideas!
Thank you for trusting us with your most precious belongings...your children. We can't wait to see them tomorrow and get busy learning.
